“WHAT IS A GREENWAY” ESSAY CONTEST ENDS May 8’th

Cathy Haley and David Hardin (owner of Biker’s Choice) and members of the Hendersonville Greenways Committee are asking the opinion of school children in grades 6 through 12.

To Cathy, I have about 12 essays in the store. And they are awesome!!!  I think they will have an impact on our judges.

TIMOTHY WHITTEN PUTTING FINISHING TOUCHES TO BIKE/PEDESTRIAN MASTER PLAN

My plan is to draft the map, then run it by Fred Rogers and/or Jerry Horton to get their input, since they have more knowledge of future roadway plans than I.  Once that happens, you will need to take it through Planning Commission approval and perhaps the Board of Mayer and Aldermen.  I will check on this.

I have been delayed in drafting the final bike/ped master plan map.  We are coming down to the wire on the special census, and almost all my time next week will be devoted to that.

GET PAID TO RIDE BIKE TO WORK

Sen. Ron Wyden, a Democrat from Oregon introduced the Bicycle Commuters Benefit Act of 2006. Democrat Earl Blumenauer introduced a similar bill was in the House of Representatives in February.

The bill would give people who commute on their bicycles a pretty hefty tax break: between $40 and $100 per month. Wyden's office estimates that would be as much as $100 million per year total in tax breaks for bicyclists.

CLARKSVILLE ROTARY ANNUAL METRIC

This ride on May 27, 2006 promises to be fast and fun!. With distances of 35 miles, 62 miles and 100 miles to choose from through some of the flattest country around.

www.bikethecram.com

Sponsored by the Clarksville Rotary Club the CRAM travels over the rural roads of Todd, Logan and Christian County, Kentucky and Montgomery and Robertson Counties in Tennessee. The routes offer little traffic and great scenery, including the opportunity to see the area’s Mennonites in their horse-drawn carriages, the Jefferson Davis Monument in Fairview, as well as Beachaven Winery.

Enjoy one of the best supported and flattest rides in the South! Don’t miss the spaghetti dinner (including Dairy Queen ice cream) after the ride.
